Answer engine optimization, or AEO, is useful shorthand for making a business easy to understand in direct-answer experiences. It is not a switch you turn on in a plugin. When I review a page at We Do SEO, I look for a plain answer to the visitor’s question, evidence behind that answer, and an obvious next step.
Key takeaways
- Lead with the answer and explain the conditions that change it.
- Use verifiable examples rather than vague expertise claims.
- Link to the next useful page and a relevant contact path.

Start with a real question
Choose one primary question per page: “What does this service include?”, “How much does it cost?”, or “Can you serve my location?” Answer it early, in ordinary language. Do not bury the useful answer beneath an opening paragraph written only for search engines.
Add evidence that fits the claim
A process photo, scope example, practitioner biography, policy, original comparison, or cited source can help readers assess credibility. Use only proof you can substantiate. For a regulated industry, review claims with the appropriate professional before publishing.
Put this into practice
One practical example
For example, a page about local SEO can answer whether a service-area business needs a public address, then link to the deeper GBP guidance and the service page. The short answer solves the question; the deeper page covers exceptions.
Support the answer with site structure
Link the answer to the relevant service page, location page, and detailed explanation. Give links descriptive text so a person knows where they lead. Keep the call to action close to the decision point rather than repeating the same sales phrase after every paragraph.

Frequently asked questions
Is AEO separate from SEO?
AEO describes an emphasis on clear answers and accurate representation. Crawlability, useful content, site structure, and trust remain part of the same work.
Do FAQs guarantee AI citations?
No. FAQs help readers when the questions are real and the answers are substantive; they do not guarantee inclusion in an AI response.
How many questions should a service page answer?
Cover the questions needed to make that service understandable. Put unrelated questions on a dedicated guide or FAQ page rather than bloating the sales page.
